Director, Strategic Policy and Planning

Are you interested in becoming an influential leader in the development of government-wide Aboriginal strategy?

The Strategic Policy and Planning Branch provides leadership and direction on the development of Ontario wide strategic plans and policies which support the government's agenda with respect to Aboriginal affairs. As a member of the divisional management team, you will collaborate with ministry contacts across the Ontario Public Service and engage in outreach with business partners external to the organization on policy development, coordination, and issues management.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy and Planning, you will:

  • contribute to the establishment of government direction on Aboriginal policy
  • direct and coordinate the implementation of corporate plans and policies, ensuring cross-collaboration and integration with ministries' programs and services
  • oversee the development of strong linkages to support policy development with internal and external partners
  • conceptualize a short and long-term vision for the branch to plan and deliver policy across the OPS
  • lead and/or participate on corporate and special projects, task forces, policy forums and working groups
  • provide strategic advice to the ADM, deputy and minister on policy and planning issues, challenges and opportunities

  • you are a strategic senior leader with proven experience and achievement in policy development
  • you are a proven visionary and can develop short, medium and long-term strategies related to both policy and program delivery
  • you are a results-oriented senior executive who can act as a representative of the ministry on Aboriginal issues in front of different audiences

Policy Experience:

  • you are a policy professional with demonstrated experience planning, developing and implementing public policy initiatives
  • you have superior critical analysis and research skills to manage sensitive and high-profile policy issues

Knowledge of Aboriginal Affairs:

  • you have a strong understanding of social, economic and political impacts with respect to government direction on Aboriginal issues
  • you have comprehensive knowledge of Aboriginal affairs, culture, socio-economic issues and history

Relationship Management:

  • you can sustain and build positive working relationships with partners in the Aboriginal community to advance desired outcomes of the government's agenda
  • you can leverage strategic partnerships both horizontally across the OPS and with external stakeholders through collaborative and consultative work processes

Communication Skills:

  • you have superior presentation skills to deliver briefings on complex policy development to senior executives, including the minister
  • you have exceptional writing skills necessary to prepare high-level reports, including briefings and Cabinet submissions

Political Acuity:

  • you have proven political acuity and a keen awareness of the profile of Aboriginal issues in the province

Salary range: $115,000.00 - $131,450.00 per annum
