Director, Special Projects
Are you a strategic leader with exceptional project management skills? Consider this opportunity to influence and deliver government responses to key issues impacting Aboriginal communities across the province.
The Special Projects Branch is a critical touch point within the ministry and is primarily responsible for coordinating responses and developing programs that flow from recommendations of the Ipperwash Inquiry. This role requires a balance of policy work involving research and critical analysis with the strategic operational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate effective programs that advance the Aboriginal agenda for Ontario.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy and Planning, you will lead a team of policy advisors, program officers and research analysts and:
- design, plan and lead the undertaking of research and evaluation of policies, programs and models
- review, assess and evaluate cross-jurisdictional Aboriginal policies and programs
- lead and prepare reports to Cabinet on the government's recommendations arising from the Ipperwash Inquiry and other projects
- ensure the development and implementation of a consistent, government-wide communications strategy
- operationalize concepts and policies to deliver effective and responsive programs for Aboriginal communities

- you are a proven visionary and can develop short, medium and long-term strategies related to both policy and program delivery
- you have the ability to leverage the skills and experiences of a diverse group of staff to produce optimal results
Knowledge:
- you have exceptional strategic business planning and analytical skills
- you have the demonstrated ability to design and deliver operational programs impacting Aboriginal issues
- you have a solid background with information research and gathering techniques
Relationship Management:
- you can build and sustain positive horizontal working relationships with partners across OPS ministries
Communication Skills:
- you have the exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, necessary to develop strategy and to advise senior management and political officials
- you have the ability to create a consultative approach with central agencies and partners to effectively manage key issues and move forward ministry priorities and objectives
Political Acuity:
- you have proven political acuity and a keen awareness of the profile of Aboriginal issues in the province
- you have a strong understanding of social, economic and political impacts with respect to government direction on Aboriginal issues
Salary range: $115,000.00 - $131,450.00 per annum
